Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

At Tower Painters, we specialize in painting ski lifts, gondolas, and trams — and we’ve been doing it for over 40 years! This niche craft demands precision, and we bring it in every brushstroke. Founded by Robert, who began painting lifts after years in lift maintenance, our team delivers smooth finishes, crisp lines, and paint jobs that elevate both appearance and safety. From faded colors to flaking paint, we restore your ski lifts to look brand new. Need bolts tightened on your tram tower? We do that, too. With a national reach and an unmatched passion for what we do, no one paints like Tower Painters.

Tower Painters started with our founder, Robert, who’s been skiing since he was four. After moving to the mountains, he began working in lift maintenance at Squaw Valley. When he left maintenance to ski more, his boss asked him to paint the lifts instead — and just like that, Tower Painters was born. Since then, Robert has spent 40+ years perfecting the art of ski lift painting. He still skis 4 or 5 days a week in the winter and leads a dedicated team that shares his passion for mountain life and expert painting.

We’re proudly based in Soda Springs, California — but our reach is nationwide. We’ve completed lift painting projects in California, Alaska, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, New England, and many places in between. No mountain is too remote if it means delivering our signature quality to your lift.

Hiring Tower Painters means you skip the stress and get guaranteed results. We bring every tool needed to prep, mask, and paint with precision. We know what to paint, what to protect, and how to leave behind a perfectly polished finish. From covering electric boxes and lift shacks to crisp paint lines that wow your riders, our team delivers clean, efficient, and safe painting every time. Additionally, if your bolts need tightening, we’ve got that covered too. With decades of hands-on experience, we make safety and quality our top priorities.

We do more than paint ski lifts, gondolas, and trams. We also tighten bolts, restore lift components, and have even added candy-cane stripes to drive shafts and ski patrol buildings. If it adds charm, color, or safety to your mountain, we’re in. Have a special request? Call us at (530) 210-1056 or fill out our contact form. Robert will get back to you personally to discuss your vision.

Timelines vary depending on the size and scope of your project. When you reach out with the details, we’ll provide an accurate estimate based on your needs. We work around your summer operating schedule and do not perform painting services during the winter months.

We paint many types of towers. We paint communication towers and water towers and radio towers and industrial structures. The team uses different methods to paint each tower type according to the specific needs of the particular structure and its current state.

Most towers should be repainted every 5 to 7 years. The paint will deteriorate because of weather conditions and sun exposure and rust damage. The tower requires regular repainting to maintain its safety and visibility.

The purpose of tower painting extends beyond decorative elements. The coating protects the building from rust and weather damage and other structural threats. The painting system provides an essential safety function that protects towers which need to maintain their visibility for aircraft operations.

Yes. Safety is our most important goal at this organization. Our crew uses proper gear and follows strict safety steps during every project. This method helps protect all workers together with the surrounding environment of the tower.

We prepare the surface before painting. The procedure consists of three steps which include cleaning and pressure washing and removing all rust and old paint. Proper preparation work leads to improved paint performance which results in extended durability and better visual appearance.

The process of removing rust from surfaces needs to be done first before any other work can proceed. We use methods like sandblasting or mechanical tools to clean the surface. This gives a smooth base for the new coating.

We select our methods according to the requirements of each project. The application of spray paint delivers uniform surface coverage across all surfaces. For narrow spaces and precise work, brushes and rollers function as the appropriate tools. The selection process for methods exists to establish which method delivers the most effective outcomes.

The required time for the project depends on two factors which are the tower’s dimensions and its present state. The duration of smaller projects needs a few days whereas the construction of larger towers requires multiple weeks to finish. The project’s schedule will experience disruptions because of weather conditions and site accessibility problems.

Yes. We review the tower before starting. This process enables us to assess the tower’s state which helps us determine the appropriate procedures. In certain situations we can create an estimate using only photographic evidence and essential information.

Yes. Our team can travel and work in remote locations. We are trained to handle towers in cities, rural areas, and even tight spaces.

We use high-quality industrial coatings. The paints provide protection against extreme weather conditions while delivering long-lasting performance. The appropriate product selection depends on the specific tower design and surrounding environmental conditions.

Yes. If a tower has old or lead-based paint, we follow safe removal steps. This protects both the crew and the environment during the process.

Yes. Our team is fully trained and insured. Workers follow safety programs and use proper tools to complete each job with care.

Yes. We provide warranties for our painting work. The warranty ensures you can trust that the project will endure while meeting all required quality standards.

The team schedules all work to achieve maximum efficiency. We can continue our work process in most situations without needing any breaks. Our team always includes safety measures and plans to minimize operational impacts.

The three main steps of our process include proper cleaning procedures and correct surface preparation and application of high-quality coatings. The application of these procedures will result in extended paint durability while safeguarding the tower against potential damage.
